Mixed reactions to the iPad launch.

I think it's cool, they do cool well... but how practical is it?

Will I want to type emails on the screen based keyboard?

Unlike his normal pro pitch man routine, I was less than impressed with the KeyNote Address that Steve Jobs did about the launch of the iPAD.

For those like me who don't want to download quicktime, I found it on YouTube so you don't have to, here it is:

My comments are that well .... you're not talking about anything new here.

Pretty much every device I own will let me play MP3's, surf the web, check email and share photo's.

As he says, it has to be better than a laptop and a phone to make it work.

I would feel more nervous toting that iPad around (for fear of damaging it) than I would a little netbook with a hard exterior clam shell that closes over the screen.

I think despite not liking the iphone design, I'd rather tote that around for size, than this thing
(still waiting for the Android phones to mature a little more)

Overall, while they do a great job of creating buzz, getting free media publicity and generally hyping up their product.

I don't see this being the killer device that the iPod was to music.

A quick look around the web also shows you that there is no shortage of tablets on the road map of everyone from HP to HTC to new players on the block.

EndGaget has a good article with a bunch of contenders.

This one in particular stood out for me.

Watching what happens with the Android OS and the new Snap Dragon Chip set from Qualacomm, should prove interesting.

I have no doubt that there will be more than one contender in the space by the next quarter when Apple actually starts shipping the Ipad to consumers and Apple Stores.
